Social Media Policy and Guidelines

The World Literacy Foundation has embraced the digital revolution by becoming an active player in the internet field with a focus on social media channels.


Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube offer a new space to communicate with our global community including partners, volunteers, donors, and advocates. We aim to do it in the best and most responsible way possible.


Purpose and Scope


This section contains the guidelines for partners, supporters, and volunteers when publishing information related to the World Literacy Foundation on social media, blogs, message boards, chat rooms, electronic newsletters, and other sites and services that permit users to share information with others in a simultaneous manner.

Content Approval


Any digital content (social media post, press release, blog post, digital, newsletter, banners) that aims to promote a relationship with the World Literacy Foundation must be approved by the World Literacy Foundation before its publication. If we find any statements or claims that are false or misleading, we will contact you for correction.

  • Acknowledge your affiliation with the World Literacy Foundation: Disclose that you are a partner, volunteer, or ambassador of the organization by using the hashtag #WLFpartner, #WLFvolunteer or #WLFambassador respectively.
  • Try to reference our account mid-message, not at the end.
  • We provide a personal trackable link to approved partners.
  • Always shorten links.
  • Always be honest and accurate. Do not spread false information, rumors, or misleading claims about the World Literacy Foundation or any of our affiliated projects.

Filters and Effects


We recommend not to use filters or effects on pictures that make look them unnatural or overexposed.


  • Please keep the World Literacy Foundation related social media accounts separate from personal accounts.
  • Under any circumstances post or release any information that is considered confidential or not public. If there are questions about what is considered confidential, employees should check with the organisation first.
  • Social media use shouldn’t interfere with employee’s responsibilities at the World Literacy Foundation. Personal use of social media networks or personal blogging of online content is discouraged.
  • If employees publish content that involves work or subjects associated with the World Literacy Foundation, a disclaimer should be used, such as this: “The postings on this site are my own and may not represent the World Literacy Foundation opinions.”
  • If you see misrepresentations made about the World Literacy Foundation in the media, you may point that out. Always do so with respect and with the facts.
