In the United States, literacy rates vary greatly between racial and socioeconomic groups:
- More than 60% of low-income families have no children’s books in their home
- There is a 30 million word gap between children from the wealthiest and poorest families.
That’s why the North America World Literacy Foundation is working to change the future for these children. We are partnering with local schools and communities in the Mid-Western region to provide children’s books, tutoring, literacy support, pop-up libraries and general awareness activities to children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In February 2019 we are launching Michigan Reads Initiative to provide tutoring and literacy resources to children from marginalized backgrounds in Michigan (State-wide). Learn more www.MichiganReads.org
