My Name is Ink: An inclusive and collaborative project highlighting literacy

My Name is Ink: An inclusive and collaborative project highlighting literacy.

A novel is composed of paragraphs and sentences. An author carefully considers the structure, each word, and every sentence as they construct a story. But what would happen if, instead of one author piling up sentences, 5,000 people from diverse backgrounds, ages, journeys, experiences, interests, and corners of the world condensed an idea into a sentence that would create one unique story? Well, allow me to introduce you to “My Name is Ink,” the innovative and inclusive project that makes this a reality.

If you are familiar with the exquisite corpse concept, you may already be acquainted with this idea. However, have you seen it applied on such a grand scale with 5,000 participants? The goal is to allow everyone, regardless of who they are, to participate in this collaborative artistic project. This also means that all creators come from various backgrounds, including renowned and best-selling authors like Joel Dicker – who has sold 12 million copies worldwide – supporting the project by contributing their sentences, as well as aspiring writers and poets who aspire to be part of this larger novel. “My Name is Ink” celebrates collaborative creativity and inclusiveness.

But there is a more significant purpose behind this project. It places literacy at the forefront as the fundamental skill required to participate. It also shines a light on the fact that many people are unable to explore their creativity because they cannot read or write a sentence. Sadly, this is the reality for more than 780 million people worldwide, and it remains an issue that is not adequately addressed or discussed.
Literacy skills are essential for reading and writing, but they extend beyond that. Literacy ignites creativity that goes beyond art. We need creativity for problem-solving, just as we need literacy skills in our daily lives, not only at work or school. Consider the implications of not being able to read the instructions on the medicines you are taking, for example. This is the reality for so many people, which is why foundational literacy must not be overlooked in the broader education system.

An initiative like “My Name is Ink” is both enjoyable and challenging, as you craft a sentence in just 10 minutes after purchasing it for 25 euros. Furthermore, it holds meaningful significance in terms of raising awareness about literacy and supporting organizations that are combating illiteracy. All of the profits generated through this project will be donated to the World Literacy Foundation’s projects.

I invite you to explore this initiative and leave your mark with a sentence through their website: www.mynameisink.org You can also follow them on Instagram to see some of the sentences that have already become part of this massive and one-of-a-kind novel!
