Education is a Human Right
“Give me educated mothers I shall promise you the birth of a civilized educated nation”
In life, education is like water – a necessity. It helps to transform a baby into a thriving adult. In the first moments of life, a baby does not know how to walk, how to eat, how to run. Gradually, a baby will learn these things from the wisdom, support and experience of its parents. These stages of growing and learning will continue throughout the entirety of one’s life. From the start, learning is an essential part of life – one that can be used to create change in the world, fighting for equality and breaking down barriers. Learning should never take the back seat and that’s why the world needs more people fighting for the right to education.
Know Your Rights
Education provides the necessary knowledge to know one’s rights. Awareness of one’s rights is essential to understanding the opportunities that are available, and the changes that each individual can make in working towards a better future. Everyone has the right to education, but it’s up each person to make this their reality.
Universal Declaration of Human Right – Article 26
Education is not a want or a need, it is a human right. Declared in 1948, Article 26 states that all citizens of the world have the right to education and a life of learning. The statement from the Declaration is as follows:
“Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all based on merit.”
Education Throughout History
Education and learning have been essential parts of life throughout the history of the world. Those who have made immense impacts on the world as we know it has spoken about education, ringing true to its ongoing importance.
“Education comes from within; you get it by struggle and effort and thought.”
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
These days’ students are influenced by some bad habits that are happening around the world, so it is necessary to develop and lead them in a perfect path through education which helps to make a society a peaceful place.
Education starts from day one, and having access to quality learning materials at a young age is a benefit that has the potential to set a child’s life in a positive direction. The World Literacy Foundation (WLF) is working to create opportunities for children around the world in hopes of providing the basic human right of education. Offering access to programs and resources, the WLF aims to help in the global goal to eradicate illiteracy.
